St. Giles Golf Club is a charming 9 hole course situated alongside the River Severn on the outskirts of market town, Newtown, in the heart of Wales. At 6012 yards, the course at St. Giles is a challenging par 70 parkland style course. Founded in 1895, St. Giles spent the first 13 years of its life at the Bryn on the outskirts of the town before moving to its current location in 1908. The course layout has changed three time since its inception, expanding and making better use of the terrain, with the Harry Vardon giving his expert option on the proposed extension to the course in 1911 during a visit to St. Giles from Llandrindod Wells. Today the course uses the natural contours of the land to provide a challenging golfing experience rising and falling towards the River Severn, which borders the course and comes into play on three holes.
