The Slemish Mountain serves as the centerpiece for Ballymena Golf Club as it provides a beautiful scenic backdrop for most of the holes on the course. The layout at Ballymena Golf Club is partly parkland and partly heathland, creating an interesting mix of holes. At just under 6,000 yards, Ballymena Golf Club is not particularly lengthy by today's standards, but it is just as tough as any longer course thanks to six demanding par 3s and the well bunkered greens on the back nine. The tree-lined fairways are also a challenge since they require careful club selection. There is very little water though and also few opportunities to knock your ball out of bounds, making it more player-friendly to beginners. Due to the excellent drainage system, Ballymena Golf Club is the driest inland golf course in the country, which means it is playable through the whole year. In addition to the course, there is also a practice area with a putting green.
