In 1908 an agreement was made to open a 9-hole course in the valley of Galebrook and so Dunscar Golf Club was born. Since then the club has made continuous progress with many people laying the foundations for first-class facilities enjoyed at Dunscar. Most recently in 2007 the club opened its spacious retreat named the ‘Centenary Lounge’ that offers spectacular views across both the 1st and 18th holes. These top-class facilities make one of Bolton’s finest courses a joy to visit.
The mixture of both Parkland and Moorland golf at Dunscar ensures it is a course for all seasons. Recent improvements, namely the planting of new trees, ensure an individual challenge on each tee. Off the back tees the course plays a full 6,033 yards so pace yourself accordingly. The picturesque course is best exemplified by its signature 16th hole - ‘The Quarry’. This short par 3 has fir trees on the left, bunkers on the right and heather and gorse waiting for anything short of the green. The course remains a well-kept secret with superb scenery that will provide a stiff challenge to anyone taking it on.
