From hiking, biking and fishing at San Angelo State Park to touring the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, San Angelo offers plenty to do for a city its size. Located on the Concho River, this central Texas city of around 100,000 people is home to Angelo State University as well as a number of golf courses. The top public course for tee times is Quicksand Golf Course, an 18-hole design by acclaimed architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Mesquite Ranch is another public option, while Santa Fe Park Golf Course is a nice nine-hole option. Private golf clubs include San Angelo Country Club, a 1921 John Bredemus design as well as Bentwood Country Club, a Billy Martindale design that was renovated in recent years by Jeffrey Blume.
