Woodmont Golf & Country Club, an upscale semi-private club in Canton, Georgia Canton has been a coveted tee time in north Georgia ever since it opened in 1999. Located some 40 miles north of Atlanta, this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design was named Georgia s Best New Course in 2000 and in recent years it has been a fixture on Golf Advisor s list of the Top Courses in Georgia. Locals love it and Atlanta residents happily make the nearly hour drive to play Woodmont Golf Club & Country Club. The course rambles on a picturesque landscape of rolling hills, lakes, streams and old hardwood trees. Though the routing runs through a housing development, you ll never feel like the houses are right on top of you. Woodmont Golf Club & Country Club is a highly varied golf course. Jones s par-72 layout features five par 3s, eight par 4s, and five par 5s. Holes 9 and 10 are back-to-back par 5s and the round finishes with par 5s on holes 16 and 18. Five sets of tee markers, plus three more combo distances options, ensure that everyone can play from a manageable distance. The forward markers measure 4,869 yards, while the championship tees reach 6,774 yards. Woodmont Golf Club & Country Club is not a long course, but trees, sloping fairways, water features, out of bounds, deep sand bunkers, and tricky greens all serve to defend par. Slicers beware most of the trouble is concentrated on the right side of the holes. Throughout the round, beauty combines with challenge to enliven the game. Woodmont Golf Club & Country Club calls upon players to execute a few shots over lakes and creeks, highlighted most dramatically by the short postage-stamp style par-3 11th and the par-4 17th. The club s fast, tricky greens are on the small side. Some slope severely. Over the years t Woodmont Golf Club & Country Club has garnered praise for its fine course conditions and its attractive landscaping. Wood plank bridges and cascading streams enhanced by stonework add to the aesthetic appeal of the club. The course is especially beautiful in fall when the tree foliage bursts with color. Practice facilities include a nice driving range and a small short game area with a chipping green, a sand bunker, and a putting green. The elegant clubhouse is home to a well-stocked pro shop and a bar & grille restaurant that features an all-day menu.
