In golf-loving Green Valley, Arizona, Haven Golf Course stands out as the most popular place to play. Located just off of I-19, some 25 miles south of Tucson, locals and visiting golfers fill up the tee sheets on this beautiful, fun, beginner-friendly and walkable layout that consistently offers affordable tee times. Haven Golf Course is Green Valley s oldest playing field. Arthur Jack Snyder, who designed renowned courses at The Wigwam outside of Phoenix and Wailea Golf Resort in Hawaii, laid out the golf grounds in the early 1960s. Snyder geared his designs for ordinary golfers rather than top-flight pros. His trademarks were fun and playable layouts with large accessible greens and understated bunkering. That s the case at Haven Golf Course. It s a traditional-style, quite flat layout with grass from tee to green. There are no forced carries over desert or water at Haven Golf Course. You ll find wide fairways with a good number of loosely spaced trees to help define the playing corridors. On the front nine, especially, wide shots may go into an adjacent fairway, but chances are you ll have a reasonable recovery shot. Water, in the form of a few small lakes, looms on several holes, but the hazards aren t intimidating. Though the greens are elevated at Haven Golf Course, they welcome run-up shots. The putting surfaces are large with modest breaks you can stroke putts confidently here. One of the most appealing aspects of Haven Golf Course is that it is Green Valley s only truly pleasantly walking layout. The Madera Mountains off in the distance as well as views of pecan groves add a nice scenic touch to the walk. Practice facilities at Haven Golf Course include a driving range with grass stations, chipping green, sand bunker, and putting green. For further short game work, there s also a 9-hole, walking-only pitch-and putt course with holes ranging between 50 and 90 yards. The modest clubhouse features a spartan pro shop and a small lounge where you can get snacks and drinks. For a fun, relaxing game in Green Valley, make a tee time at Haven Golf Course.
