While it isn?t as famous as Pete Dye?s Teeth of the Dog Course at Casa de Campo, the 27-hole Dye Fore Course is a must play as well for anyone coming to this wonderful Dominican resort. The original 18 holes of the course, the Marina and Chavon nines, opened in 2005 and were designed by PB Dye. The new nine, Lago, opened in 2011, and as the name implies, employs lots of water on the holes. The Chavon overlooks the winding Chavon River. And the Marina Nine might have the best views of all, towering over the mouth of the river to the Caribbean Sea. While the newest nine caters more to member play, the Chavon-Marina 18 is the most sought-out resort combination. The course is known for its dramatic elevation changes with breathtaking views of the Chavon River and ocean below. From the tips, the course is a staggering 7,700 yards, but there are six sets of tees for every level of golfer. Fairways are generous and the greens are large, but they have plenty of undulation, so putting and short-game has to be good to score here. As for memorable holes, there are plenty, but the 12th and 15th (Chavon), both over 200 yards, are two of the most memorable par 3s at the resort. Dye Fore is also right next door to Altos de Chavon, a replica Mediterranean village that overlooks the Chavon River. It?s a great place to get a meal or drink after your round.
