Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club near Punta Gorda has fast become one of the most popular and acclaimed courses in Southwest Florida. Though the club has a rapidly growing membership, public golfers are welcome to schedule tee times. This playable but challenging design by Gordon Lewis made a big splash when it debuted in late 2019, as it immediately began appearing on Golf Advisor s list of Top Courses in Florida. The playing field anchors a residential development with resort-style amenities. Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club is known for its attractive and fun design, excellent playing conditions, and green fees that are lower than you ll find at courses of comparable quality in Southwest Florida. Though the routing is lined by housing, it also borders 1,100 acres of natural, undeveloped tree-covered land that provides stunning vistas and lends a tranquil quality to the round. The playing field represents a reworking of the long-defunct Tern Bay Golf and Tennis Club. That 27-hole facility debuted in 2007 but closed only a year later when its real estate component went bust. Gordon Lewis, who has done more than 80 courses in Southwest Florida, rerouted and redirected the fairways and added beautiful white sand bunkers to up the eyecandy quotient on this 18-hole layout that is fun to play. The Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club layout spirals around in a generally clockwise direction. Flat, spacious playing corridors ensure that everyone can handle this course. Water factors into all but one hole (the 5th). The lakes and lagoons at Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club usually border the right side of the fairways. While the hazards may extend from tee to green, unless you opt to play from the back two of the five sets of tee markers, you won t face any carries over water. Besides the abundant aquatic penalty areas, thick woods and shrubs loom as penal hazards on many holes. In most instances, this ornery vegetation spells an instant lost ball. Wind is a big factor here, as it comes off?the?Gulf of Mexico which is just five miles away. Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club is full of solid holes that?flow nicely together and are a joy to play. The layout s large, undulating greens only add to the fun and challenge. Practice facilities at Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club include a driving range and chipping and putting areas. The clubhouse features a fully-stocked pro shop, locker rooms, and a dining area that serves snacks, comfort food, and drinks. Seating is ?available indoors or outside.
