Ballinasloe Golf Club was founded in 1894, making it one of Ireland's oldest clubs. It is also one of the most treasured golf courses amongst the county's locals. Originally opened as a nine-hole course, it was expanded to a 6,416-yard 18-hole course in the early 1980s and has since gone under many improvements including newly built greens and the incorporation of mature trees. Several holes have also been remodeled over the years to make the course more challenging overall such ad the interesting water features added to the 11th and 12th holes. The parkland golf course tumbles across a variety of different elevation changes. The dogleg holes characterize the layout, especially the tricky second hole. The lengthy fifth is anther dogleg to be cautious of, it requires strategic shots to make the green in regulation. Ballinasloe Golf Club is hardly ever crowded and visitors are welcome during the week and can call ahead on weekends. The course is also playable year-round.
