Just across the Ottawa River and the provincial border from Ottawa in Aylmer, Quebec, Club de Golf Les Vieux Moulins is one of the most affordable tee times in the orbit of Canada s national capital. The picturesque playing field, located 10 miles east of downtown Ottawa, features a varied collection of tree-lined holes on a site surrounded in part by both houses and forestland. Rambling over moderately hilly terrain, Golf Les Vieux Moulins presents a mix of straightaway and dogleg holes. Four sets of tee markers provide players of diverse skill levels with appropriately differentiated challenges between 5,203 yards and 6,228 yards. The par-71 routing is an unusual 38-33 configuration. The front nine features three par 5s and a single par 3, while the back nine has four par 3s and concludes with its lone par 5. While trees form secluded corridors on many holes, on other tests the fairways open up and you ll be beside an adjacent fairway. Though the course is quite playable, you ll likely lose your ball if it darts into the thick vegetation along the tree lines. Several ponds enhance the beauty and the challenge of Golf Les Vieux Moulins. A couple of tests require forced-carry shots over water to reach the green. Strategically placed bunkers in the fairways and beside the greens add further interest to the game. The putting surfaces are fairly small with modest undulations. In the absence of an irrigation system, turf conditions at Golf Les Vieux Moulins largely depend upon how much rainfall the course receives. Though a couple of hills can be physically challenging, on any given day there are likely to be about equal numbers of walkers and players who opt to take a cart. Be advised that tee time reservations do not include a cart, and occasionally, when the club is busy, there may not be enough carts for all players.The course is especially beautiful during fall foliage season. You ll likely also see some Canadian wildlife during your round. Practice facilities include a driving range and a putting green. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a snack area.
