Ever since it opened in 2014, Gamble Sands Golf Club has been a must-play near the small town of Brewster in remote north-central Washington. The Sands Course at Gamble Sands Golf Club, like the club s new QuickSands Course par-3 course and the Cascades Putting Course, is a David McLay Kidd creation. The highly-rated links-style Sands Course at Gamble Sands Golf Club is a U.S. top-100 public layout and a perennial pick as one of the best courses in all of the State of Washington. Commanding a sublime and boundless wind-swept high desert site with breathtaking views of the Columbia River, it may be your most fun round of the year. Elevated tee boxes with downhill tee shots, immense fairways and accessible enormous greens make for a course that everyone is able to handle. Less proficient players won t get beaten up too badly or lose many golf balls. Every hole presents multiple playing options, as you can take on varying degrees of risk or play conservatively. The ground game is paramount here. It s a riot to watch shots at Gamble Sands Golf Club ramble over the dips, rises and undulations of the firm fescue fairways and the gargantuan greens. Some players even follow the pro tip in the course guide and putt from the tee box on a downhill 160-yard par-3 4th hole! The par-72 playing field features five sets of nearly evenly spaced out tee markers that play between 4,804 yards and 7,227 yards. Though carts are available, Kidd created the layout with walkers in mind. Practice facilities include a driving range and a large green for chipping and putting. Gamble Sands Golf Club also boasts the Cascades Putting Course, which was inspired by the famous Himalayas Putting Course at St Andrews, and the 14-hole QuickSands Course, a par-3 test with holes measuring between 80 yards and 150 yards. It s fun and relaxing, as music is piped in and groups of up to eight can go off together. Gamble Sands Golf Club features an impressively stocked pro shop and the Danny Boy Bar and Grill, which has good food and drink and sublime views. For most players, a tee time at remote Gamble Sands Golf Club requires a significant drive to central Washington (there's a fancy inn on site for overnight stays), but once you experience it you ll know why the tee sheets always fill up fast.
